Bridges are fixed replacements of missing teeth. To be eligible for a bridge, there should be at least one tooth with sufficient bone support on each side of a missing tooth space. Bridges are done in two separate sessions. On the first visit, your North Shore dentist will prepare one or two teeth on each side of the space, and will take an impression to send to a dental lab where a technician fabricates crowns on each prepared tooth and attaches an artificial tooth to the crowns. On the second visit, the bridge is checked for its shade and fit and is cemented permanently on the teeth.
Keeping a bridge clean is very important. You will be instructed on how to floss and brush around and under a bridge in order to prevent decay and gum problems.
