Crowns are lab fabricated caps that resemble teeth, and are cemented permanently on teeth. Teeth need crowns when they have been root canal treated or have lost a large portion of their structure. If direct filling materials are larger than a certain size, they cannot withstand forces of mastication, and that is why we sometimes recommend crowns.

The procedure consists of 2 or 3 sessions, where we first fill the missing part of the tooth then drill around the tooth to make room for the crown and take impression. This impression is sent to a Dental Lab where a porcelain or gold crown is fabricated and sent back to us. At the last appointment we will check the crown and cement it on the tooth.
